Unable to connect to network drives windows xp

Sounds like our problems are the same except I can only see the drive and no other folders. Also I'm reluctant to install Win 7 on my desktop until I get this resolved. I'll try an ethernet cable this evening.

Olly, I connected my laptop via ethernet cable and still cannot see the drive. Just wait now for an answer. In reply to augie's post on November 3, Augie, Thanks for letting me know. I guess your problem isn't exactly the same as mine, but there are obviously similarities.

So far I've had no more useful responses, so I'll keep waiting too..! My Vista 64 is just as problematic. Shawn - Support Engineer. In reply to mpmajor's post on November 3, Hi All, There are a few solutions I have seen for this error code, some of which have already been listed. Can you try disabling any third party antivirus or firewalls?

Please do this and let us know if it allows you to connect. Hope this helps! You must wait at least 5 mins or so as firewall changes aren't seen immediately on Microsoft Network 4. Check to see if problem exists. I know that if there were a firewall problem, it would be in that computer in particular, because all others had no problems from the get go connecting.

I disabled all firewalls and tried connecting and still had no luck. Then turn off all your computers this time i mean all. Once it;s started, start the other. And by rebooting with firewalls turned off should take care of "waiting 5 mins" problem. There is a second issue about only one Master Browser among your computers but verifying below and then only starting the TWO in sequence with others off should spare you the effort of the add'l checking.

Firewalls Turn off firewall on both computers. Click Network Connections. Right-click Local Area Connection, and then click Properties. Click the General tab, and then click Advanced. Click the WINS tab. Close the Network Connections window. Verify the Computer Browser service 1.

Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Manage. Double-click Services and Applications. Double-click Services. Running Windows XP Pro. What OS is on the machine that's sharing the drive? What OS is on the machines that are able to connect? Green Touch Technologies is an IT service provider. Is it a domain joined machine or a shared Workgroup? Did you try to check if XP machine can see the desired file server at the network by using ping command? Then did you try to check what it can see shared folders by using net use command?

Ensure that you can see the server and the shared folders, if there is an issue sometimes NIC driver issue then you may uninstall the NIC driver and restart the machine to reinstall it automatically. Amazingly, even a service tech could not fix the issue. After much troubleshooting and trial-and-error, I found that the issue is caused by Windows XP itself.

SP2 supports WPA2 after installing the necessary software. The easiest method is to update to SP3, as this provides WPA network access natively, with zero configuration and no additional software installation required. Changing to WEP is not recommended, as it is easily hackable. There are tons of tutorials online anyone can follow and crack your password and use your internet connection for free.
